This is literally what the convention looked like through my lens.
A 2 mile (yep) long line to get into the convention. Once inside total and complete nerd heaven. If you are a Star Wars nerd that is.
Hopefully soon we will hear about the next Star Wars Celebration. All we know is 2019. No location. Though Episode IX is coming out that Memorial Day Weekend AND hopefully one of the Star Wars lands at Disney will be opening……
The amount of Conventions that come through Central Florida is actually pretty high. Between Tampa, Orlando and Daytona we get quite a few through out the year.
Some are ones that come back year after year (MegaCon I am looking at you). And some we only get once ever 5 years or so. (Star Wars Celebration)
This year we were lucky enough to get Celebration back and it was AMAZING. I can’t think of a better way to spend a long weekend than with friends celebrating one of our favorite movies ever.
We learned an very important lesson at our first Celebration back in 2012. Stay down by the convention center. The closer the better. Between the parties, the events, the panels, and even the drinking, it is just easier. I didn’t have to worry about the commute each day of the convention, didn’t have to worry about not getting sleep (already do that, don’t need to add a 30 min drive each way to that) and it’s just to be able to stay close to the action. The best stuff always happens after the con floor has closed for the night and we are all hanging out at the hotel bar.
By the time we get all of our stuff up and into the hotel room you would think there was a small army staying in there and not just 3 adults. We end up with so much stuff to bring. We have our costumes, our street clothes, our alcohol, and I usually have camera gear of some sort. This year I lucked out, normally I dress as Harley Quinn and usually have a mallet or baseball bat, but this time around I didn’t wear any of my costumes so I could keep an eye on my husband and his best friend while they were in costume to keep them safe. (always an important thing at conventions)

Generally we arrive the night before the convention starts so we can attempt to get everything situated and good to go for the weekend. We also try to get a group of friends together to do dinner since most of us are so spread out across the state (and in the case of the 501st Legion, literally across the world). It’s a great time to catch up before we go into the overdrive that is the convention life.
